The Web3 Personas project aims to spark conversations that put user empathy at the center and help accelerate mass adoption. It redirects builders to deeply understand the specific target personas their offerings are designed for.
It enables building Web3 solutions with clarity, intent, and real user alignment.
Background¶
The Web3 Personas project emerged from my experiences building, refining, pivoting, and writing about Web3 infrastructure software since 2022. Through conversations with Web3 thinkers, developers, and builders, many of us have repeatedly seen the same issue: Web3 isn’t achieving mass adoption, despite strong interest and rapid evolution.
This has created a Web3 conundrum.
Blockchain promised decentralization, data ownership, and privacy for individual empowerment. Yet today’s Web3 technology is complex, poorly scaled, and unusable for the masses.
In effect, Web3 blocks itself from attracting the very users it intends to empower.
We’ve all seen sincere, highly skilled builders create remarkable Web3 infrastructure for “the next million users,” only to struggle for traction or even visibility within a fragmented ecosystem crowded with scams.
This represents a massive loss of effort and intellect. If the stakeholders had clarity on their target users along with insights about the direction those users are evolving toward, then the landscape could look very different.
It’s time for a focused effort.
This project highlights why deeply understanding Web3 user personas is critical for building products that truly resonate with the users they are meant to serve.
Driving Growth¶
User empathy plays a crucial role in enhancing product onboarding ease. A fast and seamless onboarding process fosters trust, while staying aligned with user behavior and needs ensures products and solutions that are tuned to their true purpose, leading to product stickiness and momentum.
As with most evolving fields, Web3 is changing and improving for the better but we have a long way to go.
The insights gained via this study are not static but serve as a valuable starter framework for aligning product visions with the target audience. This is an attempt to encourage the wider Web3 buidler community to create its own unique product user persona template and refine it based on product specific understanding and its market fit. Remember, the early beta adopters are a valuable resource to help validate the target user persona identified for any product/solution.
